¡Sean honestas, manas!

I’ve known for a while I was going to ask Paul to marry me, I just didn’t know how or where I was going to do it. I really wanted to surprise him and make it a moment he would never forget. We were recently on vacation in Hawaii where we watched the sunrise from the top of a volcano, but I decided that was too obvious. ? He would definitely see it coming. A few weeks later we were in Mexico on a sunset sail in the middle of a picturesque bay. ? But again: Too obvious. Practically a cliche. Finally, we planned a short trip to visit Paul’s family in Canada and I decided this would be the moment. We drove to Squamish for lunch and pulled into a parking lot at the base of a mountain. “Oh neat!” Paul smiled “Did you know there were gondolas here?” I pretended to be equally surprised as we boarded the Sea to Sky gondola and made our ascent. ? I had been planning this moment for over a month, rehearsing the right words, imagining the scene…suddenly my heart was racing. I reached for the ring-box hidden in my pocket and got down on one knee….but Paul didn’t even notice! Distracted by the view and his phone he just kept on talking, laughing, and taking pictures. ? Paul’s Aunt (who was filming the entire thing) chimed in: “Hey Paul, what’s Matthew doing on one knee?” Then he looked down and FINALLY saw me kneeling before him! We both burst out laughing at the same time. Then I asked the question I had been waiting to ask since the summer I met him: “Will you marry me?” I said a bunch of other things, too, but that’s just between me and Paul. ? But I CAN tell you this: He said YES. We both want to thank you guys for following along with us for the past 3 years. The love and support we receive from you has been a special experience, and we are looking forward to sharing a lot more as we prepare for our wedding day! ? #proposal #fiance #gayproposal #retinitispigmentosa
